Beach Bloopers

So in the midst of a wild and crazy summer, Chris and I took a much needed break to the beach this past weekend. Not only to wind down, but to rest and prep for what's still to come. We enjoyed just laying on the beach, reading and catching some rays. Well, just enough to keep from burning.

I have a cute new bathing suit for the summer. Very cute. Green with white polka dots cute. I was wearing said bathing suit when the most unfortunate occured. I'm not sure what category it would fall under: comedy, horror, drama, or romance. Just know that it was only something that would be seen in a movie. Or a comic strip. Or a greeting card.

We had just come out of the ocean. I bent over to get more sunscreen out of the bag when I heard the most alarming sound. No, the bottoms did not split. Even better. The plastic piece that holds the top together broke. And I don't mean just a little piece. I mean the entire thing. Broke completely in half. The noise I heard? That was the sound of my entire bathing suit top snapping off and around to the front of my body, hanging. NOT ON ME.

The next thing I knew, I was grabbing a hold of everything I could and flopped down into the beach chair. All of this happened within a total of two seconds. I looked around, still holding. I froze, mouth hanging wide open. Once I gathered myself, I realized that my suit was twisted. There was no way it would cover anything until I untangled it. So, with Chris standing nearby blocking views and laughing the whole time, I untwisted it and was able to rig it in the back so that it stayed in place.

For the first time ever, we had packed extra suits in the car. So, there I am, broken bathing suit and changing in the car. No bathrooms around and I WASN'T about to change in the port-a-potty. Once I wiggled into my new suit, I made it back onto the beach. Ever so hesitant to bend over for more sunscreen.

Only to me. Only in a movie. I only wonder where the cameras were!

Duck... Duck...

...Goose!

I want you to imagine this scene so you can take on the full effect of this experience I had last night. Picture a lively group of three year olds. Twelve of them to be exact. We are at VBS, enjoying time in the preschool craft and activity room. For some reason, our schedule has us with them for 30 minutes. We have already finished our craft, played with all of the bouncy and beach balls that we could, and even enjoyed the bubble machine for awhile. We still had some time left and figured we could play a game. What game? Well, why not Duck Duck Goose? They should all know how. So we get them to sit around the midfield tarp.

Clue #1? It took forever to get them in a circle. Clue #2? We had to turn some to get them to face the center. Clue #3? When briefly explaining the directions, I asked what they did when I tapped them and said goose. Only one yelled out "Chase you!" Very good. We gave it a whirl. I started "duck"ing and "duck"ing some more.

I got to one little boy. The one that knew to chase me. I said "goose" and started to jog around the circle. Next thing I knew... HALF of the group got up and chased me, including the "goose". When I sat down, I was bombarded by every child that followed the original directions- Chase me.

Needless to say, that game was very short-lived. We'll probably go for something more like Ring-Around-the-Rosie tonight!

On the Hunt...

... for paper towel rolls! I need some (only about 30) for a VBS craft. If you have any that you can bring to me, PLEASE help! Even if you live far away, you can mail them. (Insert laught here). I might start collecting toilet paper rolls if I can't get enough, so save those too.

Anyways... on to the next part of my page long to-do list!

Keep Swimming

So the little song from Finding Nemo keeps popping into my head. You know it... "Just keep swimming"...

Mom and I were talking yesterday and I came to this realization. Not really a realization since I already knew it. I just found a way to put it into words.

Life is like swimming in the ocean. Some days the water is calm and the weather is great. Sometimes it gets a little rough, but you make it through and back into the calmer, shallow parts. But every once in awhile, you drift too far out. You keep swimming and swimming. Just as soon as you get your head above the water, another wave comes along to challenge you again. So you keep swimming just to get to the top. Or if it's not the waves that try to knock you under, it's a current. The problem with currents is that you have no control. They will take you where they want to go. You know that you can't fight it. You just have to swim with it until you can finally break away. Back to the shore, where the water is calm and quiet again.

Well, that's life. Crashing waves and strong currents will come, amidst the calm and fun waves. Just keep swimming.

Nevermind

So, it's pretty hard to go back and fill in on this last month, considering all the pictures I want to use are on my husband's computer... at work... in the middle of a HUGE trial! Instead of looking back for now, I'll look to the present and near future.

Right now I have been single for about a week. I go to bed before Chris gets home and leave right as he is getting up. Why? He is working SO HARD for this trial. It was originally supposed to be Monday through Wednesday, then got extended to Thursday. And I was told today that it might take Friday too. Great. But I don't mind. I figure I can take a hard week of work when it's as rare as it has been since he started working there 3 years ago. I'd much rather have a husband at home each night instead of a husband who is never home, working too hard. I'm proud of him, but definitely can't wait to see him when this is over with!

Which brings me to Friday. I really hate that this trial might take so long- this means I'm driving to Memphis on my own. Somehow, years ago, I decided to make it to each of my siblings' graduation. Lucky for me... they all went to Harding! Do you know how far that is? That's forever away from here! Once I went to Mike's, that set the pace for all the rest. I went to Stephen's, and last went to Morgan's. That was all the siblings, but now there is one more... Mike's wife, Grace. I am so proud of her! She is graduating from optometry school in Memphis. She started school at the same time as Chris and they got married a few months later. I know how it is, newlyweds and still in school. They've worked so hard and it is now paying off. I will be traveling to now see her walk across the stage for this HUGE accomplishment. I am so proud and excited for you, Grace!

Until I get my husband, his computer, and my pictures back, I hope this tides you over! Have a terrific rest of the week!

P.S.- Only 16 1/2 days of school left!

Whoa Nelly!

Okay... so I said my March was to come in like a lion and go out like a lamb... Little did I know, it was only the calm before the storm! These past few weeks have been quite a whirlwind of activity. Now that April's end is peeking around the corner, I don't know where to start. I'll spare you the details but do the best I can. Hold on tight!

Just a Little...

We had a terrific spring break visiting good friends in Hilton Head and Savannah. I'll put more later, but wanted to give just a little now!
